1-Day EPA Asbestos Supervisor Refresher

This annual refresher course is required for asbestos abatement supervisors to maintain their accreditations.  The course focuses on new state and Federal regulations, abatement methods and competent person responsibilities. The course will also review initial course topics.  Skill-building exercises and case studies are utilized to enhance the learning experience.

This refresher course meets the AHERA, ASHARA and TSCA Title II Accreditation for asbestos supervisors. An AMA certificate is provided for each student upon successful completion of the course.

5-Day EPA Asbestos Supervisor

This course is necessary for the accreditation of individuals to supervise an asbestos abatement project.  All persons who will serve as the competent person on an asbestos abatement project must take this course.  The supervisor course addresses EPA, OSHA, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware State regulations for asbestos abatement projects.  It is ideal training for building owners, regulatory officials, industrial technicians and safety officers who need to be knowledgeable of the details of abatement projects.

This course meets the AHERA, ASHARA and TSCA Title II Accreditation for asbestos.  All students participate in detailed hands-on activities and desktop scenarios. An AMA certificate is provided for each student upon successful completion of the course.

This course is ideal for general contractors, building owners, regulatory officials, industrial hygienists and safety officers who need to be knowledgeable on the details of an asbestos abatement project.

2- Hour Asbestos Awareness

This course is offered in English and Spanish.

This 2-hour course is required for all individuals who work in areas where they may contact asbestos.  It is designed to provide the “basics” on asbestos hazards in buildings, and applies to all school maintenance and custodial staff operating under EPA/AHERA and OSHA standards.

Note: This course provides the minimum level of training necessary for an individual to enter an asbestos regulated area, when combined with Respiratory Protection training.  An AMA certificate is provided for each student upon successful completion of the course.

This course is ideal for all maintenance and custodial staff.

AHERA Compliance

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) audits schools each year in Maryland for local education agency (LEA) compliance with the AHERA rules and regulations. Last year, the audits occurred from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013. The following are the top seven violations found by MDE:

  • 30 violations – Failed to maintain records
  • 15 violations – Failed to ensure proper compliance of response actions
  • 14 violations – Failed to sample new material, or assume the new material as asbestos
  • 13 violations – Failed to notify shot term workers concerning the asbestos found in the schools
  • 12 violations – Failed to provide initial or annual notifications to parents, teachers, and employee organizations concerning the asbestos found in the schools
  • 12 violations – Failed to conduct periodic surveillance every six months
  • 12 violations – Failed to Qualify for an AHERA exclusion

AMA approved by D.C. to teach the 8-Hour Lead-Dust Sampling Technician Course

This course meets the training certification requirements for the District of Columbia Lead-Dust Sampling Technician. The course teaches individuals how to conduct Renovation Permit, Change in Occupancy and Interim Controls lead dust sampling under the District of Columbia’s new lead regulations. This course is designed to be taught over an 8-hour time period with 2 hours devoted to hands-on training.

An AMA certificate of completion is provided for each student upon successful completion of the course.

This course is ideal for Property Managers and personnel dealing with tenant turnover, renovations and/or interim controls.
